We’re Building a Better Pittsburgh, and You Are the Biggest Piece!
Pittsburgh doesn’t become a safer and more connected city by chance. It happens because thousands of people like you step up to make change possible. BikePGH’s Year-End Campaign is our annual call to everyone who believes in making our city a place where biking and walking are safe and accessible for all.

Progress takes every single one of us to complete the picture. Here are five reasons to give to BikePGH as we launch our 2025 Year-End Campaign to raise $100,000 by December 31st:
1.) You Make Pittsburgh’s Streets Safer
With your help, we’re piecing together a more walkable, bikeable city, every day. Your support fuels the advocacy that makes our streets work for everyone, not just those behind the wheel. From building better bike lanes to leading pedestrian safety campaigns, your donation helps transform frustration into action, and action into lasting change.
The new bike infrastructure projects that supporters helped get installed this year include:
- Penn Ave bike lanes in the Strip, helping connect residents coming from the eastern neighborhoods to the Strip and Downtown.
- Northsiders celebrated the completion of the Davis Avenue Bridge reconnecting neighbors to Riverview Park.
- In the South Side, the hard fought S 18th St traffic calming (including a climbing lane) was installed halfway up the hill, with the second half expected in the Spring, once utility work is complete.
- New bike lanes installed on Pitt’s Campus after a spate of pedestrian fatalities activated a student-led traffic calming campaign.
- Forbes/Braddock Intersection was updated, completing the new bike lane that resulted from the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse.
- and more
All of this new infrastructure and traffic calming seems to be having an effect, resulting in a hugely significant two-year decrease in reported crashes and injuries. Every time you give, you’re helping power the projects that make sure your neighbors can move safely through our city.

2.) You’re supporting free and low cost community events & programming
When you support BikePGH, you’re helping to build a Pittsburgh where everyone can get where they need to go safely, freely, and without needing to own a car, and you’re also supporting free and low cost community events and programming, like:
- Bike to Work Day, energizing community members to support safe streets and active transportation in Pittsburgh.
- OpenStreetsPGH presented by UPMC Health Plan, bringing together residents and community members to experience miles of car-free Pittsburgh streets, highlight local businesses, and enjoy programming, entertainment, and education for all ages and abilities.
- WMNBikePGH events and programs for our women, trans, & non-binary community, like no-drop group rides, the WMNBikePGH Camping Trip , and the WMNBikePGH Scavenger Hunt Ride + Party.
- Neighborhood Walks, connecting community members, sparking conversations about pedestrian safety, and celebrating the beauty and character of our local neighborhoods.
- Campus Bike Week – Each year, we are proud to partner with the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University and Chatham University to support classes, bike light giveaways, and free resources for a full week of biking education and events across Pittsburgh campuses.

3.) You’re Powering Education and Free Resources
Each person who learns to ride confidently or drive more mindfully is another piece of the puzzle. BikePGH’s education programs teach riders and drivers alike how to share the road. From youth bike safety to adult commuter workshops, your support gives people the knowledge and confidence to bike around Pittsburgh, helps us produce free resources like The Pittsburgh Bike Map, allows us to give away hundreds of free helmets and bike light sets every year at Operation Illumination, and drives youth programs and activities like bike buses, supporting Pittsburgh Safe Routes to School Walk & Roll to School Day, and our free “Learn 2 Ride” event series.
Our staff also attended 77 community events in over 25 neighborhoods to spread the word about BikePGH and POGOH and provide free resources to thousands of residents, including: Over 2000 Bike Maps, 300 Family Guides, and 300 E-BikePGH Guides.
…Every dollar you give helps keep these efforts afloat and offsets the monetary cost of educating the public!

4.) You’re Part of a Powerful Movement to Create a Sustainable Transportation Network that Works for Everyone
We believe a truly livable city is one where everyone has convenient and affordable options for getting around safely and reliably, no matter age, income, ability, race, gender, or neighborhood. This is a part of a bigger vision for a sustainable transportation network that works for everyone. Especially considering about a quarter of all Pittsburgh households do not have access to a personal vehicle, it is imperative that we have reasonable alternatives to driving such as connected bike lanes, good public transit, and safe sidewalks, so that all residents can access basic needs like jobs, doctors, schools, and groceries.
And with that, we might be called “Bike”PGH, but we also heavily advocate for the rights of cyclists AND pedestrians, especially our neighbors who use mobility devices to get around. Through our many communications channels, we make sure to keep promoting how BikePGH’s efforts to keep streets and roadways safer are shared across many communities and sectors; the goal is to have a transportation network that minimizes the risk of injury and death and is accessible for everyone.
When you donate, you’re supporting BikePGH as we work toward building a transportation network where all road users are respected, valued, and protected.
5.) You Complete the Picture
